BurmaSufi Appeal

Myanmar / Burma

After a military coup in February, protests have started in towns and cities all over the country. The military reacted violently with shoot-to-kill orders, that did not distinguish between bystander and protester, young or old, muslim or buddhist. Consequently we focus all our effort on providing muslims with food parcels.

Current situation in Myanmar (Burma)

In Myanmar many changes to everyday life have recently occurred, directly changing how donations are being used today.

After a military coup in February, protests have started in towns and cities all over the country. The military reacted violently with shoot-to-kill orders, that did not distinguish between bystander and protester, young or old, muslim or buddhist. Furthermore, any link to the imprisoned democratic party, or the protest organisers may mean you are kidnapped at night. For our muslim brothers and sisters in Burma, this means interrupted income, inability to access banks and fear to walk on the roads. Consequently we have had to pause all work on wells and building houses, and instead focus all effort on providing muslims with food parcels.

Much of our work was in the countryside (i.e. widows, teaching young girls sewing, and boys islamic fiqh) but with the banks closed and mobile data cut off it has been difficult to contact our trustees in remote areas. This means we have to focus within the capital city Yangon, where more people have wifi and sending money is more viable. We hope to support people in a handful of communities around Yangon, some of which we have been able to help before with rice and oil.

With Ramadan arriving soon we can look to primarily feeding the poor via our trustees in this intimidating time. Any support from Nural Huda shall go a long way in reinforcing Maulana’s charitable presence in the country, and his spiritual presence insha’Allah in their hearts.
